Balinese Huts

8" x 10" oil on canvas
ready to be framed

This painting was inspired by a photo from Bali.  I didn't take the photo, but I've been there and it brought back wonderful memories!  I was almost waiting for some festival parade to come through the image.  I visited Bali after working in the jungles of Kalimantan (Borneo) for several weeks.  Now - this was before I ever considered being an artist, and I was so hungry for color when I left Kalimantan!  I never knew green could come in so many shades.  But other than green, there wasn't much color.  Even houses that were originally painted a color were very faded and blah.  I was thrilled to see all the beautiful colors in Bali when I arrived there!!  Maybe that was my first hint about how much I love color.  I also missed cheese - but that's another story.  I used a pallette knife to do this painting and the result is lots of thick paint, texture and a very loose style.

I believe you can name this after any colorful tropical country you've visited - as a fun reminder of happy days in the tropics.  Enjoy!
