Fluffy Yellows

8.5" x 11" mixed media on paper
-  ~ 3 inch white mat

Today was a fun day.  I've been doing some fairly detailed work - for me.  And I just felt like being loose and free with the paint and pallette knife today.  I found a prepared background done with acrylic on watercolor paper - left over from before my move from Bakersfield.  I have lots of unfinished little pieces of art.  This one was done as a demonstration on how to make fun and loose backgrounds using a scrumbling technique with several shades of reds, oranges and yellows.  This background was just waiting for a subject matter to land on it.  I have oil paints on my pallette so I used the oils on top of the dried acrylic background.  I like the indefinite edges around the painting.  I think the end effect is fun and free.

Tonight we're off to explore Crowne Center in Kansas City.  Well - at least we're going there for the first time - to meet a friend from Bakersfield who's here on business.  Crowne Center is built around the headquarters for Hallmark Cards.  The complex of shopping, dining, entertainment is one of those "must sees" in the K.C. area.  Here's to another little mini-adventure!

If you read yesterday's blog, you know the image I gave was a "work in progress."  To see the finished painting, check out the revised image in yesterday's blog.

Have a beautiful day!
