Another painting in my zinnia series. And - another fun and funky interpretation. Last night I painted at the McCall farm and did a floral in oils - much more "serious" than this style of painting. I'm feeling a little torn - I love this fun, designerly approach to painting and I'm so comfortable with it - it's fun for me to do - and I think it brings joy to others. But - I'm also intrigued with learning a little more sophisticated style. And I feel like I have an opportunity to learn from two very talented oil painters. They're great about sharing their insights and little tricks with how to handle oils. Tomorrow I'll post that new painting and you can continue to observe this "split personality." My life is in a state of transition. Of course! We just moved to a totally different part of the country and left good friends - and are meeting new people and exploring all kinds of new stuff. So my art style is in a similar state of transition. Today I decided that's okay! I'll just be a sophisticated artist some days - and I'll be fun and playful other days. Who knows where this will go. I expect I'll develop my own twist and style with oils which will be different than acrylics. At least I'm admitting this issue of split styles/personalities. It's like some of us always say - painting is cheaper than a therapist!
On that note - have a beautiful day.
