This painting was inspired by a beautiful bed of white phlox at the McCall farm. I never grew phlox in Bakersfield - not sure if it grows in that heat or if I just didn't know about them. They're gorgeous now in Kansas - either white or sort of pinkish purply (??) like the bed next to this one. I plan to include them in my own yard to bloom this time of year. I'm taking an inventory of what blooms when - so I can have lots of color most of the year. In California, we had something flowering all year long. I think I'll have to just enjoy the snow during parts of the year here. You know - there's actually a lot of color in snow. Subtle - but it's not all white. (Okay - that's a stretch!)
This is painted in the new, more sophisticated style with oils. I feel like I'm learning so much - I don't have much experience with oils. This is fun!
Take care and have a beautiful evening.
I like this style! My Mom always had phlox in her garden...
