Sloppy Cherry Pie

Well, I never have been much of a baker but I do love pies!  The sloppier and gooier the better - and my favorites are tart things like berries or cherries.   I've only made 2 pie crusts in my life.  The first was beautiful and hard as a rock.  The second was so flaky you could barely pick up a bite.  Maybe 3rd time's a charm.  This one at least looks okay - and I don't have to spoil the image with a taste test.  I soon learned that it's much easier to buy pie crusts - or better yet, buy already made pies!  This is part of my funky dessert series - along with the cup cakes last week.  It's a lot easier for me to "bake" a pie with my pallette knife and paint than with all that flour and whatever else goes into the real thing.

Yesterday I was lazy and took a day off.  No excuses.  Just felt like being sort of kick back and catching up on stuff.  We had a friend visit over the weekend and we had such fun.  We went to the new Bloch buildings at the Nelson-Atkins art museum in Kansas City, Mo.  What an amazing place!  I've heard pros and cons - which means it makes a statement of some sort to everyone.  Perfect!  I'm one who happens to love it.  The extremely open and modern architecture is a huge contrast to the old and traditional style of the Nelson-Atkins - which is an amazing place in itself.  Sort of the "yen and yang" - "old and new" - "traditional and modern."  Very, very cool.

Here's to a beautiful evening - maybe with a little slice of gooey, sloppy pie!
