(This blog was posted yesterday - Wednesday, Aug. 22 - but for some reason it did not go out to my subscribers.  I really like this painting - don't want you to miss it!  So - I'm re-publishing this entry.  Please excuse me if you get it twice.  Computers???)

This is my first real plein air painting of a Kansas landscape!  Yesterday at the McCall farm, we loaded our easels and paints onto a flat-bed trailer and headed to the fields.  They had just cut the hay, and we looked out over fields to view the big rolled bales.  Interesting - it was in the 90's but we found some shade and had a good breeze and we didn't notice the heat at all.  It helped that we started painting about 6 pm.  I've done plein air florals at the farm, but I decided it's time to do some local landscape scenes.  Fun!  I can't wait to see these trees in their fall colors.  Maybe I'll do this scene again in a different season.

I'm not sure what took longer - painting the landscape or photographing it.  Oil paintings are hard to photograph until they're dry because they have too much reflection from the shiny paint.  I tried a bunch of lighting situations and finally gave up.  I'll take another photo in a few days and replace this one.   Just one of many challenges - persistence helps!

I hope you're having a beautiful day!
