Today's landscape was started on location at Cedar Creek, a gorgeous development west of Kansas City on the way to Lawrence.  This is the first of several paintings of Cedar Creek scenery that you'll see.  I've been invited to join a group of KC plein air artists to paint these scenes for an art event in mid-September.  I'm thrilled to be part of this group!  The pressure's on - some great artists were out this past weekend capturing their interpretation of the hills, trees, golf course, waterfalls, bridges - whatever caught their attention.  This painting is inspired by (sort of like) the landscaped entrance to the development.  Of course I couldn't just paint it like it is!  Way too much green right now.  The tall grasses really caught my attention.  I pretended it was Fall - or I just changed the bushes to the colors I wanted.  Who knows what they'll be like in the Fall - maybe still green.  That's okay - they're colorful in my paintings  and I hope you enjoy the colors.  Life's too short  to be all green!

Friday I didn't post anything because I was playing with our 3 granddaughters!  One lives here and the two from Colorado came for the KC granddaughter's 2nd birthday party.  What fun - and what energy!  The Colorado girls - 9 year old twins - painted bags with me and their Mom joined in.  I told them all my bag painting secrets, and theirs were cuter than mine. Nothing like the creative mind of a kid.  Saturday at the birthday party, there were 18 kids below the age of 6!!!  A friend said - "this is like controlled chaos."  I agreed - but said it wasn't very controlled.  Too cute - and TONS of energy!  A sure way to end a party for kids is when they all hit nap time and they want to go home.

Tomorrow I'll work on another Cedar Creek painting from photos - and tomorrow evening our painting group heads there again, weather permitting.  This will be a "traditional landscape" week.  Time to focus.

Here's to a beautiful week!
