Cedar Creek Racquet Club Area

10" x 10" oil on gallery wrapped canvas

Today's art is another painting inspired by a scene at Cedar Creek, Kansas.  This oil painting will be included in the plein air artist's tent at a big art festival there in mid-September.  I'm anxious to see the art show and, again, I'm honored to be part of this group of artists.

Oil painting is so different than acrylic and I'm getting more comfortable with this medium all the time.  It's a good challenge to learn something new.  I'm trying a totally different style with oils - but I want to retain my signature approach of using bright colors.  The colors in my oil paintings so far are more subdued than some of my acrylic paintings, but they're still imaginative and fun - or at least that's what I'm attempting to accomplish.  I'm working on letting the brush strokes really show.  I thought the clouds in this painting are approaching a little Van Gogh'ish texture, which is really cool if I can pull that off!  Well - maybe I don't have to be quite as hectic/frantic as he got with some of his brush strokes - and I do intend to keep both of my ears.  But I do love Van Gogh's work, especially his brush strokes and bold colors.   I'll just have to keep pushing this medium and see how my own style develops.  That's such a fun adventure!!

Here's to a beautiful evening!

I like the painting and your blog entry today a lot. Glad to hear you are keeping your ears.

The colors are still bright and "you" and the brushwork is very evident (nice)! I could not "enlarge" though and that was a bummer. I always like the closeup!

    Cheers!

Thanks, Barb.  I fixed the image so you can enlarge it at the shopping cart.  Cheers to you, too!

I really like the way the brush strokes create a 3rd dimension to the image; even in the digital photo, you can "feel" the texture.

Thanks, Harvey!  That's what I'm trying to do with oils.  They tend to hold the texture of the brush stroke better than acrylics - one thing I like about oils.  As I'm getting more used to them, I'm trying to be a little "gutsy" with the brush strokes - at least for now.

Where are you?  As in - what continent?  Hope you're having fun -
