Today's floral was started in a new workshop at Artichokes - that wonderful new gallery/art school here in Kansas City. For 5 weeks, we'll be studying significant women painters and will be inspired by their approach to painting. Today's artist was Georgia O'Keefe - one of my favorite painters whose work is definitely an influence on my approach to art. So today I was going more for simplicity and blending than the bold brush strokes I've been working on recently. This was painted from a real flower. I just love zinnias so it was a wonderful morning focusing on a favorite flower and a very favorite painter.
I so admire Georgia O'Keeffe's spirit, too! One of my favorite stories of her goes like this: She was older and lived in Santa Fe and visited a friend frequently. This friend had a smooth, round rock that she "coveted" and it got to be a game with the guest and the host, who wouldn't give it to O'Keeffe. One day when he was in another room, she took the rock and he never saw it again - at least not in his home. What a mischievous old gal she must have been! Such an independent spirit!!
Sorry about no posting last Friday - I was at the allergist. I'm finally getting some treatment and drugs for these new local allergies, and the drugs are like a miracle. I'm so thankful for doctors and thank them for giving up all that fun and sleep for all those years to study medicine. They make our lives bearable. It's great to feel good!!
I hope you're feeling good and that you have a beautiful evening!
