Today's zinnia is a "make-over" of the painting posted 3 days ago - September 10.  I just didn't like the background of that painting.  So - I changed it!  I was trying to be too "O'Keeffe'ish" with lots of blending, etc.  I think it's great to study other artists and
try to see how they approached painting and learn from them.  But you have to make your style your own.  I used to do lots of blending - now I'm trying to be a little looser with the brush strokes. I actually changed the lower part of this background a lot.  Once it was purple - that didn't work.  Then it was sort of a solid blue - too much like Simon Bull, whose work I love but it didn't quite work here either.  I didn't change the flower much.  You can compare this version to the original that was posted on Sep. 10. to see how different backgrounds affect the overall painting.   Some days just click - other days you study and struggle, more of the growing and learning process I supposed.  I think this painting has a little more punch - and I like "punch!"

We're off to help set up for this weekend's art festival.  It's still beautiful here today.  Hope it's beautiful in your world, too!
