Green Vase and Flowers

Another funky floral today.  I'm just in a funky, knife-painting kind of mood, so - go for it!  Maybe it's "coming home" to my familiar acrylic world - or a break from "stretching" - or "whatever."  One thing I can feel - these are looser than my earlier florals, and have been influenced by the work that I've been doing in oils.  Every little life experience comes into play when you're painting.  The more you paint, the more you tap into your own deep down "life."  Okay - that's a little heavy, but I think it's true - if we just let it happen.

This morning was a fun one.  My husband and I visited a foundry in Kansas City, Missouri.  He's ready to have another of his clay sculptures made into a bronze sculpture.  This one is the cutest Mama giraffe and her little baby.  He's so clever!  We visited the foundry, then explored some of the surrounding area.  We went to the "Going to Kansas City" park at 12th Street and Vine.  Not sure why it's such a big deal on the map - nice enough grounds, but not much there.  Streets around have interesting names - Ella Fitzgerald Ave, Basie Rd, etc.  Anyway - we've been there.  Then we explored the 18th & Vine area which was the center of the Black culture in the days of segregation.  Very interesting neighborhood - the place must have been hopping with all the jazz venues.  Those white folks didn't know what they were missing.  We had lunch at Arthur Bryant's BBQ, a true Kansas City landmark.  You know you're in a good old fashioned BBQ place when they start the plate with a slice of white Wonder bread!  Or - 3 slices!!!!  Yummy food - we brought some home.  THEN - we found a great store for grandparents - "Once Upon a Child."  Bought a few little toys at a great price.  I'd say that was a well-rounded morning to explore and have fun.  No wonder I liked my painting today.

On that note - have a beautiful time exploring your life!
