Three Vases

Another pallette knife "floral" painting today.  Actually, this style is more about color fields and texture than florals, but the little flowers give your mind something to grab onto - other than colors.  This is larger than I've been painting and it feels good to stretch physically with a larger canvas - not just stretch mentally to work on new techniques.  The 3 vases just sort of happened - one of those happy accidents in creativity.  After I put in the green vase, I realized I had 2 strips of color next to it - one orange and one pink.  So the orange and pink just morphed into vases - sort of.  It's so fun when you start having a conversation with the painting as it's developing and it tells you what to do.   Or strongly suggests that you follow a little curve in your journey.

Funny thing - I thought I was almost out of white paint and I was going to do a painting without much white.  That didn't feel good.  I'm trying to back off on yellow and red for a while and giving up white was just too much.  I also just felt like I had another tube of white somewhere - and it finally popped up when I was getting ready to paint.  This probably has about a half of a large tube of white on it!!  Guess I changed my mind on giving up white.

The weekend's here - hope yours is beautiful.

I like this one too! Like all in this series, and I enjoyed the story of the "arising" of the second and third vase. Also, you converse with your paintings TOO?? Me and mine...we often become very close. hehee.

I'm off to Cambria for the weekend for an encaustic painting workshop. I still remember how you helped me pack supplies for my first painting workshop over there with Art Sherwyn! (I'm only a little better at the packing thing.)

    Have a good weekend!

Thanks, Barb.  I'm liking this series too - and so is Mike.  Sometimes you have to take some detours and try new stuff and then apply those learnings to your own approach.  I wakt to keep at this for a while.

Cambria - one of my favorite places!  I can't wait to see what you do there.  Have fun!
