Today I was thinking of my very dear aunt in Texas who's struggling with cancer. She's a deeply religious person, and her faith is so obvious in her attitude now. She's so frail but when I talk with her on the phone, she still sounds fairly 'perky' - on her good days. She wants to know what's going on in our lives. What an inspiration she is for all who know her. One of our cousins recently visited her and told her she had lived her life full of Grace, always. I think that's such a perfect thing to say about her - and to share with her. My heart and prayers are with my uncle and cousins now as they're with her in this stage of her life. This painting of a cross is meant as a symbol of peace and faith - not sadness. When I first started painting many years ago, I really struggled with a painting of a cross and almost didn't keep it - but my aunt saw it and wanted it. I know she would like this one, too. Of course, being a wonderful aunt, she always "liked" anything we did, whether that was true or not. She's been a special person in my life and I'm lucky for that.
On a lighter note - I touched up the painting that I posted last. Just had to add a little color. So often you need to let a painting "hang out" for a while and look at it with fresh eyes. Of course, it's always easy to overdo those little touch ups - but I like this newer version. Here's what it looks like now:

I hope all of you have a beautiful and peaceful evening. Life is so fragile - enjoy it while you can.
I love the cross and everything it stands for in your work and all of our lives. I see peace in this work but also life that it signifies, not only to your sweet aunt but to all of us that have deep faith. Beautiful work Claudia.
