The best part of creativity sometimes is "letting go."  Huh???  Today's painting is a perfect example.  I had visions of doing a very "serene" painting of a red poinsettia and some candles - all in reds, oranges, yellows, rusts.  Getting started for holiday season, you know.  Well, maybe it's just too early for Christmas decorations - even though they're everywhere in the stores.  I just couldn't get into the poinsettia mode.  After the canvas was almost "done", I decided to let that idea go!  Luckily it's pretty cool (temperature wise) and the acrylic was still workable.  I scraped off some, added whites and started scraping the paint around with my palette knife - getting lots of mud, or so I thought.  But I kept working with it - really getting into the scraping and adding new colors and pushing the paint around and - of course - the thought of flowers popped into my mind!  I call this a "flurry" because that's the way I felt when I was working with the piles of paint - trying to get into something "good" before the acrylics started to set up.  It's amazing the "gray" colors you get with mixing lots of colors - check out the sort of pinkish background in the middle of the canvas.  It's also easy to go from gray to mud - very fine line there.  I think what distinguishes the two is the other colors you put with them.  I know - this is sounding sort of art techno-speak.  Whatever!  I think the background colors are beautiful grays that help make the yellow flowers really shine.  I like the spontaneous feeling of this painting.  Hope you do, too!

Today I drove to the airport to pick up my husband.  What a beautiful day we have here!!!  Almost Chamber of Commerce perfect - blue skies, Fall colors, crisp air.  I hope your day is beautiful, too!
