Kickin' Chicken

My plan today was to post more student work. BUT - I had SOOOO much fun with this painting that I had to share! This is for the 2009 calendar - "Kickin Chicken Enchilada" recipe for May - you know, Cinco de Mayo! My South Texas heritage had to show up somewhere in this project! It's hard to grow up near the border of Mexico and not have that great Mexican culture rub off on you. I just LOVE the colors of Mexico. The bolder and stronger, the better. This little gal's having a great sunny day in her chili pepper patch. When we were young, we had Virginia Guiterrez take care of us when my Mother worked. Virginia was like another Mom to us. I remember her wonderul - and very spicy and tasty - Mexican food. When I was very young, I used to say, "Virginia, please don't make it hot." Her response? "I cook it - you eat it!" And she did - and I did. I still love spicy Mexican food - and other ethnic foods. Thanks, Virginia!!
The world's a better place because of beautiful, bright colors - at least for me. I hope you have fun with this bright painting!

Can't wait for the completed calendar!! will they be sold on your website??

Yes, this will be on my website / shopping cart! Sue - I know you're in the "know" with the restaurant business in Galveston. Is there an art or food related local store that might want to sell these? As I said, we're winging it this year in the marketing dept. Decided just a couple of months ago to do this and we've been really focused on getting it done in time for the shopping season. Hope you like it!!

Thought you'd like this sassy little chick! Ole' to you, too!! I read in our paper that Loreto Beach ranks #8 in the top 10 sexy beaches in the world. You didn't tell me that - no wonder you love it so much!
