Mission Painting

This painting is a commission - sort of.  I'm working on a big project and the people wanted the image of my California mission paintings.  One problem - these paintings are in limited edition prints so they can't be used for this venture.  So I got in the mission-painting frame of mind and did this one as a potential project image.  Missions are so interesting for me to paint, especially in this funky Mexican style.  I guess it's my south Texas upbringing plus travels in both Mexico and New Mexico where there are so many "ancient" churches with wonderful character.  Now - about this project - can't tell you too many details yet because they're still being worked out.  But it's very exciting!  On that note, I better head to the studio and get to work!

Have a beautiful day!

    Claudia,

Love the Mission painting ... reminds me of the Southwest Missions I have seen over the years. I grew up in West Texas ... no Missions up there, but wonderful Missions in Santa Fe, NM.

Thanks, Paul - where are your roots in West Texas?  My roots are firmly Texan!!  Glad you like this painting.  I understand from another email that you're a painter, too.  Would love to see some of your art.  I don't have any plein air classes going now but I may in the future.  Wouldn't it be great to do a plein air mission painting class!  I'll have to ponder that -

        Hi Claudia,

Yep ... I am a Texan, born and raised in Lubbock, TX. I am currently considering several pieces with fields of Blue Bonnets. Please consider doing an plein air class. Being deaf, I love the arts. It's a way to be expressive "visually" versus orally. Though I am oral and have a cochlear implant - I function just like any other normal person. During the day I work with Hearing Impaired students throughout Riverside County and at night and weekends, I play with my paints. It's my time of relaxation away from the stress and strain of the job. Your paintings relax me, as I love the colors you use. I will see if I can forward some of my paintings to you ... may have to send as an attachment, as I don't have a website to display my arts. Currently, I have several pieces on display at the Hemet Valley Art Association. I would like to consider the internet as a way to display and sell them -- a larger audience versus the small town of Hemet.

        Thank you.

        Paul

Maddi - thanks for checking out the art and for your comments.  Why don't you try to do a mission painting and send a photo of it to me.  That would be very cool.  Did you and Meghan check out your own art on my blog?  Love ya!  Nana
