Purple Butterfly

You're going to be seeing lots of "nature paintings" in the next few weeks!  Oh, this is so much fun!!!

I'm painting for a showing at a very unique library north of Kansas City - the
Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library   This is called an "environmental learning center."  Their emphasis is on education for elementary students.  I've never been to a library that's as remote as this place - it's in a beautiful wooded area next to the Wyandotte Co Lake Park.  I thought I was lost when I first drove there - but all of a sudden I found this amazing little jewel - out in the middle of "nowhere."

My show is titled "Flowers, Feathers, Fossils and More".  You have to know that this is connecting with my background in geology - hence the inclusion of a few fossil paintings!!  When I visited, the education coordinator said she had just ordered information on fossils in Kansas.  I took that as a sign . . .   My first visit to the library reminded me of many years doing geology fieldwork and being out in nature.  We were officially looking at rocks - but we also took in all the beautiful elements of nature!

Who knows where this painting series will take me!!  So stay tuned.  I've got a jillion ideas, and I need to have about 15 of those show up on canvases in the next few weeks. I love it!!

Oh yeah - I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL 2009!!!
