Blue Jay

Another gift of nature!!  Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined myself painting "realistic" birds.  Not sure why - I just never thought of it, especially the "realistic" thing.  Okay - these aren't totally picture perfect.  They'are actually a great subject matter for my favorite approach to painting - a very simplified object against a somewhat abstract background.  Okay . . . . this isn't too simplified.  I felt my experience working with so many engineers for so many years coming back in a big way.  And I remembered one of the amazing things about drawing or painting from life.  You see little details that you never notice before, like all the different shades of blue in a blue jay!  We have these birds - plus cardinals and many others - in our backyard.  I'm looking at all these birds a little differently now that I'm trying to paint them.

Speaking of painting - I better get back to my "nature painting" project.  Click the links for more information on the one woman showing at Mr and Mrs F L Schlagle EnvironmentalLibrary.

The weather here is amazingly warm and beautiful for February.  Here's to a beautiful weekend to all!
