Two Fossils

"Fossil Starfish" - 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas                  "Fossil Trilobite"  - 12" x 12" acrylic on canvas

These are 2 of the 3 fossils I painted for the art show at Mr and Mrs F.L. Schlagle Library - dedicated to education of the environment.  I had lots of fun painting these fossilized critters!  It reminded me of my classes in Paleontology when we had to draw so many fossils.  In science - just as in art - drawing is an excellent way to really look at something and see all the details.  Drawing is all about "seeing!"

When I took in the art, one of the young librarians got so excited about the trilobite!  Turns out she's really into trilobites.  So I'm glad I had a painting of one of these things.  I really didn't know how to make a trilobite interesting as a piece of art.  So I just had fun with this thing!!  The starfish is a beautiful specimen in a piece of sandy shale.  Or that's what I imagine . . . .  When I was painting, I could "feel" the rocks.  Brings back lots of memories of field mapping, hiking through beautiful parts of Wyoming and Utah.

So - here are two "beautiful" fossils.  I hope you have fun with them, too!
