Zoom Whitening: Makeover Success on ABC's Extreme Makeover

Extreme Makeover enters its second season after the show's tremendous ratings success last season. Following nationwide open casting calls and over 10,000 written applications, the lucky individuals are chosen for a once-in-a-life time chance to participate in Extreme Makeover. These men and women are given a Cinderella-like experience. The magic is conjured up through the skills of an "Extreme Team," consisting of the nation's top cosmetic dentists and a talented team of plastic surgeons, eye surgeons, hair and makeup artists, stylists and personal trainer.

These individuals go through full mouth rehabilitation of porcelain veneers, crowns, envisaging teeth straightening, implants and Zoom whitening. Zoom has been clinically proven to be safe when administered under the supervision of a dentist. With Zoom, your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. Zoom Whitening far exceeds over-the-counter whitening agents that take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. Zoom can whiten your teeth eight shades in one hour or six shades in just one weekend using the Zoom Take Home Whitening System. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast.

Diabetes and Oral Health - National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

People with diabetes are at risk for mouth infections, especially periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease can damage the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place and may lead to painful chewing problems.

Diabetes may also cause the glucose levels in your saliva to increase, promoting bacteria growth. Together, both of those problems can lead to oral thrush, which causes painful white patches in your mouth. By controlling your blood glucose levels, brushing and flossing everyday, and visiting your dental care professional at regular intervals, you can help prevent periodontal disease. Here are a few signs that you may be experiencing gum problems such as gingivitis and periodontal disease:

  • Red swollen gums
  • Bleeding gums
  • Loose or sensitive teeth
  • Gums pulling away from teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Dentures that do not fit well

Flossing Recommended for Good Oral Health
American Dental Association

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing twice a day with a tooth paste accepted by the American Dental Association and cleaning between the teeth with floss or inter-dental cleaners once each day to remove plaque from all tooth surfaces. Plaque is responsible for both tooth decay and gum disease. In patients with mild to moderate gingivitis (early gum disease), rinsing twice a day with an antiseptic mouth rinse was as effective as flossing for reducing plaque and gingivitis between the teeth. Flossing and inter-dental cleaners also help to remove food debris caught between teeth that may not be rinsed away.
